What is Pledge 20?
This year we are celebrating our 20th birthday and we wanted to include the community in our celebrations.
#Pledge20 is an initiative in honour of HALE’s 20th birthday where people can pledge to do 20 random acts of kindness, either as an individual or as a group.
We hope that by spreading a little kindness throughout our community, we’ll all feel the benefits – improved wellbeing, a sense of togetherness and some all round feel good vibes!
Why get involved?
Did you know that participating in an act of kindness affects your physical and mental health?
Being kind produces oxytocin and serotonin, hormones that help to lower your blood pressure, improve overall heart health, heal wounds and increase lifespan. It can increase self-esteem, happiness, energy, strength and mood. Doing a good deed (or an act of kindness) with no expectation of anything in return makes you feel good about yourself. It also makes the recipient of that kind act feel valued, appreciated and happy. They may even want to perform an act of kindness themselves and keep those good feelings going.
An act of kindness witnessed by other people could improve dozens of people’s days, and start a chain reaction spreading across our community, city, country, and even the world!
How can I take part?
Our #Pledge20 initiative is free take part in and you don’t need to register or sign up.
We will be creating a virtual Kindness Garden with everyone’s acts to display at our celebration events later on in the year, so you can also write your pledges/acts on a petal or leaf (download our Leaf and petal template here) and post or drop them in to our office:
You can find some suggestions for your acts of kindness below, or feel free to come up with your own!
When do I start?
Whenever you want! The #Pledge20 initiative will run until July 2023. We want this to be a fun and positive challenge that fits in with your day to day life, so do your acts of kindness as and when it suits you.
